Kirkcaldie & Stains and Wellington Stores

FDL was commissioned to manufacture the large fibreglass cornices fitted between the car park columns at Kirkcaldie & Stains in Wellington. The size and detailed shape of these architectural elements made moulded fibreglass well suited to the project, allowing consistent forms to be produced while keeping the finished components relatively lightweight.

The cornice panels incorporated internal load-bearing trusses, which provided structural support and assisted with positioning them around the columns. Each panel was finished in semi-gloss Epithane to provide a durable, uniform exterior surface.

FDL also manufactured fibreglass roof panels for shopfronts along Wellington’s pedestrian pathways. All components were delivered and installed by the FDL team over a single weekend, requiring the work to be carefully prepared and coordinated before installation began.

The project demonstrates the versatility of fibreglass for producing large, detailed architectural features that combine structural performance with a consistent finished appearance.
