Ormiston Seats

FDL manufactured the distinctive oyster-shaped fibreglass seats for Ormiston Shopping Centre, helping create a modern, sculptural look throughout the public areas.

The design presented several manufacturing challenges, including an offset base and the requirement for concealed fasteners so the finished seats retained a clean, uninterrupted appearance. The seats were produced in a range of colours, including several darker shades, so a painted finish was selected to achieve the required consistency and durability.

To help protect the finished surfaces in a high-use public environment, the seats were also coated with a graffiti-resistant clear finish.

The project combined custom moulding, concealed fixing details and durable surface finishes to produce seating that was both practical and visually distinctive.
