Steve Bond - Managing Director
Steve has led FDL for over 40 years and brings extensive knowledge of fibreglass, composite manufacturing and the practical realities of developing unusual products. He is a strong advocate for New Zealand manufacturing and actively supports local businesses and causes he believes in. His industry experience, commercial judgement and willingness to tackle difficult projects have helped shape FDL’s reputation for practical problem-solving and quality workmanship. He remains closely involved in the business, offering practical guidance drawn from decades of hands-on experience.
Ross McAvinue - General Manager
Ross oversees the day-to-day operations of FDL, with responsibilities spanning human resources, ICT, health and safety, and the many practical matters involved in keeping a busy manufacturing business running. He works closely with staff throughout the factory and office while maintaining strong relationships with clients and suppliers. Ross believes clear communication and trusted working relationships are fundamental to good business, helping ensure problems are addressed promptly and projects continue moving in the right direction.
Brian Terry - Production Manager
Brian has completed several tours of duty with FDL and recently returned as Production Manager, bringing extensive knowledge of the company, its products and manufacturing processes. He coordinates daily production across the factory, helping organise workflow, priorities, people and resources so work progresses smoothly. Brian works closely with management and production staff to resolve practical issues, maintain standards and keep projects moving towards completion in line with customer requirements and delivery schedules.
Dale Nicholls - Administration & Finance
Dale has worked alongside Steve for many years and oversees FDL’s administration and financial operations. She manages financial records, and the day-to-day administrative requirements that support both the office and production teams. Her detailed knowledge of the company provides valuable continuity across the business, while her practical support helps ensure staff have the information and resources they need to carry out their work effectively.
Heidi - Senior Security Officer
Heidi conducts regular patrols of the FDL grounds, moving at a measured pace unless circumstances meet her personal threshold for urgency. Visitors are generally permitted to come and go without interference, although operations remain under quiet canine supervision. Her most responsive area is food security: unattended lunches, dropped crumbs and promising smells receive immediate investigation. Between patrols, Heidi conserves her energy and maintains a watchful presence around the factory.
The Wider FDL Team
FDL’s management team is supported by experienced staff working across pattern and mould making, laminating, fabrication, finishing, panel production, administration and logistics. Each project relies on their practical knowledge, attention to detail and ability to solve problems as work moves from an initial concept through tooling and manufacture to final finishing and delivery. Together, they give FDL the breadth of capability to undertake everything from repairs and one-off prototypes to complex custom builds and repeat production.
