ICC Cricket World Cup

FDL was commissioned by Anderson Design to manufacture seven oversized fibreglass cricket balls for the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, creating highly visible promotional pieces for display at tournament locations around New Zealand.

Each ball measured approximately 1.8 metres in diameter and was produced from precision CNC-machined tooling by X-Form design to achieve a consistent spherical form. The finished fibreglass shells were lightweight enough to transport and install, while remaining strong and durable for repeated public display.

With a tight production schedule and multiple units required, the project called for efficient tooling, repeatable manufacture and a consistently high-quality finish. The completed cricket balls were installed at venues and public locations throughout New Zealand, providing an unmistakable visual link to one of the world’s largest international sporting events.

The project is a great example of how composite materials can be used to turn an unusual concept into a large-scale, durable and highly recognisable finished product.
