MRI Caravan
In 2024, FDL manufactured a custom caravan shell for Canopy Healthcare’s MRI machine, with a second unit subsequently commissioned.
The design was developed around the patient experience, with a particular focus on creating a calmer and less intimidating environment for people undergoing MRI scans. Canopy Healthcare proposed a beach or camping-inspired concept, while Toast Design developed the visual treatment, including forest imagery and a retro caravan appearance that helped soften the clinical feel of the MRI equipment.
FDL was commissioned to turn that concept into a practical composite structure. The finished shell demonstrates the versatility of fibreglass, allowing a highly customised form to be created while remaining lightweight, durable and suitable for repeated use in a healthcare environment.
The caravan shell was transported to Canopy Healthcare and assembled around the MRI installation. It was also designed so it could be readily disassembled when access is required for servicing or maintenance.
