Holopuni Canoes
FDL worked with Nick Beck of Holopuni Canoes to refine the design and manufacture of the Holopuni outrigger canoe, which is available in both paddling and sailing configurations.
The project involved upgrading the moulds and refining the composite laminate to produce a lighter, stiffer and more consistent finished canoe. These improvements reduced weight while maintaining the strength and rigidity required for performance on the water.
FDL also developed a foam-cored centreboard, further reducing weight while retaining the structural properties needed for the application.
The project demonstrates how careful composite design and manufacturing refinement can improve performance, durability and consistency in a lightweight marine craft.
