Panel FAQs
What is the cost of a panel per square metre?
We do not cost a panel per square metre; the cost is calculated based on panel size.
What is the maximum size panel you can manufacture?
16.8m x 3.80m
What is the lead time on my panels?
The lead time depends on what is currently in production, quantity of panels ordered, and the type/finish of the panels, so the lead time will vary.
Panel manufacture will take 1-3 days, depending on panel core and finish, and 1-2 days to QC, perform any gel repairs, and prep for despatch.
How much is freight?
A freight estimate can be provided after the delivery address and panel size/type is confirmed.
We generally use Mainfreight with panels that do not exceed 2.400m in width and can be comfortably transported on a pallet. For longer panels that exceed 2.4m in width, we hire a freight company with a flat panel truck, where the panel is supported by dunnage instead of a pallet.
What is the delivery time frame?
The delivery time frame is dependent on the delivery address and freight company used but generally your order should arrive within a few days following collection, if special circumstances do not apply.
Do you have standard panels?
No. All panels are made to order and therefore not restricted to a standard size.
What thickness panels do you make?
Ply core thickness ranges from 4mm minimum to 25mm maximum.
A 4mm XMO panel will have a 6mm overall thickness, and 25mm XM2 will have 30mm overall thickness.
Insulated foam core thickness ranges from 15-150mm, however we generally prefer not to go below 20mm as the styrofoam begins to lose consistency in thickness.
A 15mm non-structural XM2 panel will have 20mm overall thickness
How flexible are glass only panels?
A 2mm glass only panel will bend over curves down to 1200 diametre but this needs to be done immediately upon arrival. The longer it is left, the more the resin cures and the more difficult it will be to bend the panel, the more uneven the result, and the more susceptible to gel-coat cracking and stress marks. A 3mm panel would be more robust and would be a safer option.
What is the R-rating of your panels?
The high density XPS foam we use offers an approximate R-value of 5.2 per inch (2.54 cm).
Is one type of foam better than another?
PU has a slightly better insulation value, but it is considerably more expensive, fragile, and absorbs moisture over time.
Can I get an XM1 styropanel?
No. We can’t lay wet f/glass directly onto Styrofoam. It must be pre-cured, then glued.
Can I get a panel with an interior face of plywood?
Yes, an XMO panel finish will give you high-gloss gelcoat on the front and bare-faced ply on the back.
Do you supply panels with cut outs?
We can add timber to opening locations and cut out if we are supplied with drawings.
Do you have joining extrusions?
We do not supply extrusions. We recommend Ullrich Aluminium or similar for aluminium extrusions/jointers.
Can I paint the panels?
Yes, but talk to us first so we can discuss options and find the best plan to meet your needs. We do not recommend dark colours, as these produce excessive heat, which can lead to the surface post curing. This means the resin shrinks, and the glass fibres become more prominent i.e. the nice smooth surface becomes textured. In extreme cases delamination (separation of layers) can occur.
Do you have colours other than white?
Yes, but this will incur an additional cost as we do not keep colour in stock, and it will need to be ordered in.
