Holopuni Canoes
FDL was approached in May 2019 by Nick Beck, founder of Holopuni Canoes, and tasked with improving and producing this legendary Hawaiian canoe. FDL made numerous upgrades to the moulds and outward aspects of the Holopuni including adding the Stern Manu, which makes it look more authentic than original Hawaiian Canoes.
The Holopuni is available in both paddling and sailing forms, so a key task was optimising the laminate to give good strength at acceptable weight. This was achieved resulting in exceptional rigidity and a weight reduction of 18 kg - lighter than previous units.
The centre board was also improved with a foam core giving lightweight and rigidity.
